Audience, content creators and web team interviews
Now its time to challenge your client's perceptions and confirm them.
If an "Intranet Stakeholders Group" or similar is present at the organization, its a good time to speak to them, detail what your doing, get to know them and what improvements they would like to see.
If its at all possible, talk to your clients audience/users, learn their motivations, what are the most important sections/content on the site to them & their likes and dislikes about the site. If you're creating or redesigning an intranet, talk to as many people in different business groups, and different locations as possible.
It might also be useful to create a survey on the intranet and email the questions to everyone in the organization. You're survey could look something like Victoria University's Website Usability Survey; its short, sweet and to the point.
Talk to the content creators; Find out how content is sourced, written, where the bottlenecks are, what the most important sections/content on the site to them are and their likes and dislikes about the site.
Talk to the web team, find out how the content is updated, the bottlenecks, what they like about updating the site, the most important sections/content on the site to them, what ails them and their all important likes and dislikes about the site.
